The Down Presbytery

Karen and I enjoyed our visit to the Down Presbytery which was both varied and busy.  Between the Sunday services we attended the Tuesday Presbytery at which the Moderator Designate, Rev Michael Barry was appointed.  For me, it was good to re-connect with Rev Graham Connor who is currently the Minister of 2nd Saintfield.

On Wednesday we were made very welcome at Ballynahinch PS after which we visited the HUB which is a counselling service for the community which has been the initiative of the some of local congregations and ministers.  Thursday was a busy day starting with a 8:30am Assembly in Saintfield High School; then it was off to Downpatrick to hear of the dilemma of the Downe Hospital which cannot provide A & E services at weekends or night-time.  After a tour of the new Council offices in the company of a Unionist Councillor  it was off to visits to the St Patrick Visitor Centre, the Railway Museum, Patrick’s grave at the Cathedral and finally the Down Museum.  By 5pm we were quite tired.

On Friday Karen was delighted to return to Spa PS where she had taught and then it was off to lunch with the assistant ministers within the Presbytery.

On Sunday 9th after morning worship in Killinchy Karen and I were hosted by the elders and their wives in a home overlooking Strangford Lough.
